After the pre-game appetizers, look no further than these game day main courses.
The great thing about Super Bowl parties is having a little fun with the food choices. For example, cooking dishes with a football theme in mind or shaping them like a football is always a fun, festive option.
Football Mini Burgers
Ingredients:
1 pound ground beef
1 tablespoon flour
1 package dry onion soup mix
Small sliced cheddar cheese
Small buns or regular buns quartered and toasted
Directions:
Brown the ground beef, and drain off any excess liquid.
Stir in a tablespoon of flour and 1 package dry onion soup mix.
Add a little water and cook slow for 45 minutes to 1 hour.
Stir often and allow to cool. Form small patties out of the mixture and spoon over cheddar cheese and toasted buns.
Serving Tip: Serve the mini burgers with mini shoestring fries or hash browns. Also, numerous topping options can be added to the mini burgers to make them extra flavorful.
Game Day Mini Pizzas
Ingredients:
1 package small, soft tortillas
1 package English muffins or small bagels
1 jar good spaghetti/pizza sauce
1 (8 ounce) bag shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup parmesan cheese
sliced pepperoni
cooked bacon, crumbled
cooked Canadian bacon, crumbled
cooked Italian sausage, crumbled
bell pepper, diced
onion, diced
green or black olives, sliced
Italian seasonings
Directions:
Create an assembly line for the base of the "pizzas" - using the tortillas, bagels or English muffins as the crust.
Spoon a small amount of pizza sauce over the crusts.
Top with the desired toppings, cheeses and small dash of Italian seasonings.
Bake in a 400 degree oven for 5-10 minutes or until cheese is melted through.
Serving Tip: Serve the pizzas with a side of bread sticks or cheese sticks. Also, keep some extra sauce on hand for dipping.
Beer Onion Brats
Ingredients:
6-8 brats, the pre-cooked versions
2 tablespoons butter or margarine
2 white or yellow onions, thinly sliced
1/2 (12-ounce) bottle good beer
6-8 hoagies or thick hot dog shaped bun, toasted
Directions:
Melt the butter in a medium-sized saucepan over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally until the onions are softened.
Add 1/2 bottle of a good beer and allow the onions to cook over low heat for 5-10 minutes, covered.
Meanwhile, on an outdoor or indoor grill, cook the brats evenly until blackened on each side.
Once grilled, transfer brat to a toasted bun, and place a fair amount of onions over each brat before serving.
Serving Tip: Enjoy the brats with a favorite brew or choose the beer brand that was used to cook the onions. Also, for a topping option, serve the beer onion brats with a bit of honey mustard. As a side, make a simple potato salad or fried potatoes.
