Easy July 4th Recipes that are Fun to Eat

Wow your guests with this festive, delicious July 4th food.

Part of the fun of throwing a Fourth of July party is the preparation. This simple Fourth of July food can be created by even the youngest helpers.

Fourth of July Chewy Skewers

The ingredients of this treat include a dash of healthy with a dollop of sweet.

Ingredients:

  • Marshmallows
  • Bananas
  • Chocolate chips
  • Wooden skewers
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • Wax paper
  • Cantaloupe half

Directions:

  1. Remove peel from bananas, slice, and place in freezer safe container. Freeze slices until hardened.
  2. Place chocolate chips in microwave safe bowl and microwave in increments of 30 seconds. Between each cooking period, remove bowl from microwave and stir.
  3. Drop Marshmallows and banana slices into melted chocolate to coat. Before chocolate hardens, alternate the banana slices and marshmallows on skewers, coating with extra chocolate where necessary.
  4. Cover with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  5. Place on wax paper into freezer until chocolate hardens.
  6. Place cantaloupe half into bowl, cut side down.
  7. Push skewer ends into cantaloupe just before serving.

Fourth of July Cupcakes

Sweet treats with a chewy edge.

Ingredients:

  • White cake mix
  • Ingredients called for on the cake mix box
  • White frosting
  • Miniature marshmallows
  • Cupcake papers
  • Chocolate chips
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • Flag toothpicks

Directions:

  1. Prepare cake mix as instructed on box.
  2. Fill cupcake papers two-thirds full with cake mix.
  3. Drop four marshmallows into the top of each cupcake.
  4. Bake cupcakes as instructed on cake mix box. Check occasionally to prevent marshmallows from burning. If marshmallows become too brown, cover cupcakes with a foil tent.
  5. Remove from oven and cool completely before moving on to next step.
  6. When cooled, frost cupcakes with frosting.
  7. Place chocolate chips into microwave safe bowl and warm on increments of 30 seconds.
  8. Between warming sessions, remove bowl and stir chocolate chips.
  9. After fully melted, using spoon drizzle chocolate in lines over tops of cupcakes.
  10. While chocolate is still melted, cover with red, white, and blue sprinkles.
  11. Place a miniature marshmallow through base of each toothpick and place one toothpick on each cupcake.
  12. Serve and enjoy.

Fourth of July Dessert Parfaits

These delicious parfaits can be served as part of a meal or as a healthy dessert.

Ingredients:

  • Cool Whip or Vanilla yogurt
  • Strawberries, sliced
  • Blueberries
  • Wide-mouthed glasses or parfait dishes
  • Shortbread cookies
  • Flag toothpicks

Directions:

  1. Fill glass or parfait dish with a layer of strawberries.
  2. Create next layer with either vanilla yogurt or cool whip.
  3. Fill next layer with blueberries.
  4. Create final top layer with vanilla yogurt or cool whip.
  5. If serving as dessert, place one shortbread cookie on top at an angle.
  6. Top off with a flag toothpick.

These are only a few of the simple recipes that can be created with a little imagination. For further ideas, visit the market in search of red, white, and blue foods. Either toss together or place separately in festive bowls. In addition, have red, white, and blue popsicles on hand as an easy back-up treat.
