October provides the perfect opportunity to whip up some ingredients for fun Halloween food. Check out some of these ghoulish recipes for a howlin' good time.
As the leaves begin to change color, thoughts turn to ghosts and goblins with the approach of Halloween. Creepy recipes are in demand as invitations to school parties and neighborhood celebrations crowd the calendar. Try out a few of these concoctions for some frightfully tasty snacks . Give Me a Hand Punch RecipeWash a clean rubber glove. Prepare one 3-ounce box of a dark colored gelatin mix (grape or black cherry work well). After the gelatin cools, fill the glove with the liquid. Tie off the base of the glove with string or a twist-tie. Put it in the refrigerator for at least three hours to set. After the gelatin has set, move the glove to the freezer for another 3 hours. When "hand" is semi-frozen, use clean scissors to carefully cut away the glove. Float the "hand" in a bowl filled with punch. Bloodshot EyesGently tap a hard-boiled egg until the shell is cracked. Do not remove the shell. Place the egg in a bowl of water with red food coloring. Refrigerate for half an hour. Peel the egg which is now riddled with red lines. Place the egg on a piece of lettuce or a large slice of orange. Slice a green olive and press it into the center of the egg to complete the look of the bloodshot eye. Arachnid PizzaTake a package of refrigerated pizza dough and cut in half. Flatten half the dough into a circle on a baking sheet. Cut the other half of the dough into four equal pieces. Roll each piece into long cylinder shapes for spider legs. Cut each cylinder in half and attach all eight legs to the round spider body. Spread pizza sauce and cheese on the round crust. Use olives, mushrooms or any favorite topping to spread around as spider hair. Two tomato slices serve as eyes with whole olives as pupils. Bake pizza until cheese is melted and crust is golden brown. I Scream Spooky WitchCoat the rim of a sugar cone with a "hardening" chocolate syrup. Press the rim onto a chocolate cookie and put in the freezer for 10 minutes. Place a scoop of green ice cream (mint chocolate chip, pistachio, green sherbet or vanilla ice cream with green food coloring mixed in) on a plate. Put the cone/cookie hat on top. Use candy to make eyes, nose and a mouth on the front of the ice cream. Take a break from routine meals and snacks this Halloween season. From drinks to appetizers to main dish and dessert, these recipes are certain to bring out the spirits.
