To start off your holiday spread, prepare a simple Red, White and Blue Ice Ring to adorn a festive punch and a traditional American Flag Fruit Cake.

Red, White and Blue Ice Ring

Celebrate Fourth of July-or any special gathering-by making a Red, White and Blue Ice Ring that will not only keep your favorite punch cool, but give it a holiday theme!

Ingredients:

  • Bundt cake pan
  • A handful of Fresh or frozen strawberries, cut up into slices
  • A handful of miniature marshmallows
  • A handful of fresh or frozen blueberries
  • Sprite or 7-Up, liter size bottle
  • Punch bowl
  • Red fruit juice

Directions:

  1. Pour the soft drink into the cake pan. Then, grab a small handful of strawberries and sprinkle them all the way around the cake pan.
  2. Repeat with marshmallows and blueberries.
  3. Put the cake pan in the freezer until ice sets; about two to three hours.
  4. Once the ice ring is ready, pour the red fruit juice into the punch bowl.
  5. Run the bottom of the cake pan under warm water to loosen the ice.
  6. Turn the cake pan over onto a flat surface, and gently tap the bottom with a butter knife to remove the ice ring.
  7. Put the ice ring in your punch bowl to create a fun and festive drink for your holiday gathering. As the ice ring starts to slowly melt, the Sprite and berries will give your punch an extra zing!

American Flag Fruit Cake

Not only is it easy to prepare, but an American Flag Fruit Cake is a fun way to set the mood for the Fourth of July holiday.

Ingredients:

  • Rectangular, glass cake pan
  • White or yellow cake mix
  • White frosting
  • Fresh strawberries, cut into slices
  • Fresh blueberries

Directions:

  1. Bake cake per package instructions, and cover with white frosting.
  2. In the top left corner of the cake, arrange several blueberries in a square pattern to resemble the corner of a real American flag.
  3. On the rest of cake, make a few alternating horizontal stripes using the sliced strawberries.
  4. This portion of the cake should look like a row of strawberries and then a row of just the white frosting showing repeating. Once finished applying the fruit, your beautiful cake should resemble a patriotic American flag.

Make your Fourth of July celebration and affair to remember by cooking up fun and easy holiday fare like a festive Red, White and Blue Ice Ring and an American Flag Fruit Cake.
