Delectable, enticing, delicious, this party food is so simple, and a most attractive centerpiece for the entertainment table. Ready in minutes, aesthetically appetizing.

Catering for a party can be vexatious. Planning well so that food is prepared in a timely fashion, yet not too long before the intended meal time, is crucial. Just wanting something different on the dinner table, with little effort? This salad will delight everyone.

Mozzarella Tomato “Caprese” is a Perfect Salad for a Party

This recipe is perfect for the busy housewife or entertainer as it is neither difficult nor time-consuming and can be prepared a few hours before the meal time without bad effect on its look. There is neither wilting nor discoloration like some other salads show if made a few hours prior to serving. The most difficult part of this recipe is the purchasing of the items; once they are to hand, the chef is ready to make the salad. It’s as simple as one, two, three.

A Wonderful Delicious Salad Suitable for an Italian Meal

No matter how big or small the party of eaters is, the recipe remains the same, the only difference being cutting more cheese and slicing more tomatoes. Even a small meal for two can look beautiful with this red and white delight on the serving platter. The salad, of course, being of Italian origin, goes with all Italian cuisine; however, it combines wonderfully with many other international foods. It can be eaten with simple casseroles or other easily prepared meals if time is short and a meal is needed to be made quickly.

Recipe for Mozzarella & Tomato Salad - Make a small or large platter depending on number of guests

  • Purchase a solid piece of mozzarella cheese that can be sliced. Don’t buy grated cheese.
  • ½ cup olive oil
  • Package of supermarket basil, or leaves fresh from the garden.
  • Roma or small vine tomatoes
  • Ground pepper
  • Red Balsamic Vinegar

Method:

(And this is the easiest part of all)

  1. Slice the mozzarella into 1/8” slices
  2. Place them decoratively on the serving plate
  3. Pluck and place the basil leaves in the empty spaces decoratively
  4. Slice small tomatoes into halves or cut slices of larger tomato types
  5. Place the tomatoes decoratively between and/or around the mozzarella slices
  6. When the design is complete, one can move things around to form a prettier design, the salad is nearly ready.
  7. Drip olive oil from the bottle from one side of the dish to the other in several rows, ensuring that some has dribbled onto the mozzarella, tomatoes and basil. Don’t drown everything, but don’t skimp either because the flavor of the oil mixed with the ingredients is the essence in this dish.
  8. Grind fresh pepper over everything

This salad will be admired and enjoyed by all. The beautiful outcome belies the ease of which this salad takes to make, and the short amount of time needed to complete it.

Try this with a homemade Challah Bread for a delightful combination.

Bon Appetit!
